Dehydration Causing Swollen Gums And Gum Disease To Take Its Toll

Good and proper oral hygiene is essential in preventing swollen gums and gum disease problems. Brushing the teeth and flossing daily, are the key in removing or neutralizing the harmful anaerobic bacteria responsible for periodontal gum disease problems. Unfortunately, good oral hygiene may not be enough to prevent swollen gums and gum disease problems. This is because dehydration causes gum disease problems due to lowered salivation level. Saliva helps prevent gum disease because it has high levels of oxygen and natural enzymes which neutralize the anaerobic bacteria. There are behaviors or products that induce dehydration that makes gum disease prevention difficult or impossible and some of the worst and should be avoided. Smoking, laxatives, excessive alcohol intake, dietary supplements, coffee, tea and medications.

Tooth and gum disease are prevented by simply avoiding behaviors or products that induce dehydration . By keeping the mouth well-salivated and using good oral hygiene practices, preventing gum disease is very simple.
